One Love was a collaborative social media and time-based installation project on the Indiana University Southeast campus in New Albany, Indiana. The inspiration for the project came from the opening lines of the similarly named Bob Marly and the Wailers song, “One Love! One Heart!/ Let’s get together and feel all right” (1-2). In this project, collaborators were asked to take unfired clay roses and place them in a location that resonated with them. In a time of division, hate, and bigotry, people were asked to come together and participate in creating an atmosphere of light and hope with small hidden gems in a space that we all love. As the former First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, once said, “It is often when night looks darkest, it is often before the fever breaks that one senses the gathering momentum for change, when one feels that resurrection of hope in the midst of despair and apathy.”
